From Street to Sanctuary: Bruno’s Transformative Recovery Journey
Two years ago, a call came through to our rescue hotline: a young indie hound had been abandoned near a highway toll plaza, severely dehydrated, underweight, and suffering from acute demodectic mange.
That dog was Bruno. Today, he is the joyful mascot of our Kalyan sanctuary hub—with a golden, radiant coat and endless energy. Here is how scientific rehabilitation transformed his life.
Phase 1: Stabilization & Microbiome Repair
When Bruno arrived, his gut was compromised from starvation. Introducing rich food immediately would have caused re-feeding syndrome. Our veterinary team initiated:
- Electrolyte Hydration: Controlled subcutaneous fluids fortified with B-complex vitamins.
- Gentle Single-Protein Broth: Simmered bone broth with pumpkin pureé to soothe his inflamed intestinal lining.
- Skin Barrier Recovery: Topical antiseptic oatmeal baths combined with oral EPA/DHA fatty acids to rebuild his lipid skin barrier without irritating raw lesions.
Phase 2: Healing the Soul
Physical recovery is only half the battle for rescue animals. Bruno had developed severe fear reactivity toward loud motor sounds and sudden gestures. Through positive reinforcement training, calm crate rest, and daily interactive play, Bruno slowly learned that human hands bring comfort, not harm.
Our Community Mission
Bruno's journey is the heartbeat of Furrfab. A percentage of every order placed on Furrfab goes directly to funding emergency rescue surgeries, vaccinations, and nutrition drives for street dogs and community cats across Maharashtra. Thank you for making stories like Bruno's possible.
